About Doctor Maureen Dos Ramos
Dr. Maureen Dos Ramos is a registered homeopathic practitioner whose work is deeply shaped by compassion, lived experience, and a lifelong interest in understanding health in its full human context.
From an early age, Dr. Dos Ramos was known for her caring and empathetic nature. This natural inclination to support and care for others led her to pursue formal studies in homeopathy in KwaZulu-Natal, a journey she both enjoyed and found deeply meaningful. After completing her studies and while awaiting the completion of her Master’s research, she spent close to a year in the United Kingdom working in high-care settings.
During this time, she gained invaluable insight into the realities of living with chronic illness and disability — not only from the patient’s perspective, but from that of families and caregivers. Supporting individuals with complex, long-term health needs profoundly shaped her understanding of dignity, patience, and the emotional realities of illness, and continues to influence how she approaches patient care today.
On returning to South Africa, Dr. Dos Ramos joined an established practice where she continued to learn, grow, and refine her clinical approach. In the early years of practice, her interest in chronic and long-standing health challenges led her to further exposure in integrative healthcare environments. A formative experience included visiting integrative medical clinics in Tijuana, Mexico, where she observed a model of care that emphasised human connection — shared meals, emotional support, and the importance of community alongside clinical care. This experience reinforced her belief that health is deeply influenced by environment, relationships, and meaning.
Motherhood became a defining chapter of her life and practice. Dr. Dos Ramos is a hands-on mother to two sons, and her children have played an integral role in shaping her understanding of family life, balance, and wellbeing. For many years, her practice environment allowed her to remain closely involved in her children’s daily lives, deepening her appreciation of how nutrition, routine, emotional safety, and lifestyle influence growth, sleep, learning, and overall wellbeing.
In 2010, she began expanding her professional knowledge through formal studies in integrative medicine, completing international modules through the Academy for Integrative and Functional Medicine (A4M). This further broadened her understanding of the interaction between lifestyle, nutrition, stress, and health, always within an ethical, patient-centred framework.
As her children grew older and entered formal schooling, Dr. Dos Ramos developed a particular interest in cognitive wellbeing, focus, and emotional regulation. This led her to Switzerland, where she received training in neurofeedback and neuroplasticity, including exposure to QEEG interpretation under Professor Kropotov. This work deepened her appreciation for the adaptability of the human nervous system and the complex relationship between brain function, behaviour, and daily life.
Over the years, personal experiences of loss, grief, and family illness have further shaped her clinical perspective, strengthening her empathy and understanding of the emotional weight that often accompanies health challenges.
At the heart of Dr. Dos Ramos’s practice is a deeply held belief that health cannot be separated from life context. Her consultations aim to support patients in understanding their health within the broader framework of their physical wellbeing, emotional state, lifestyle, relationships, and life stage. She approaches each consultation with care, respect, and a commitment to seeing the individual as a whole.
Her personal faith plays an important role in how she lives and works, grounding her practice in service, humility, and purpose.
Today, Dr. Dos Ramos continues to practise from the Groenkloof area, where she has been based for nearly 18 years, offering thoughtful, individualised homeopathic consultations rooted in experience, compassion, and ethical professional practice.
